Taking a high-level view, Farny helps provide transparency about the environmental impacts associated with choosing cement and concrete to guide users tasked with making responsible choices. He promotes the use of cement-based materials by focusing on sustainability and more, and in his 30-plus years in the construction industry, he has authored numerous publications on cement and concrete, and assisted with development of PCA's campaign to raise awareness of portland-limestone cements (PLCs) to help move the industry toward carbon neutrality. Farny belongs to several industry standards developing organizations and from 2016-2022, chaired ACI 332 on Residential Concrete, managing updates of both their code and guide documents. He has a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology.
