For over 20 years the opioid crisis has been afflicting death and destruction across the US. According to the National Safety Council, approximately 75% of all workplaces are affected by this crisis. Construction workers and extended families are disproportionately at risk. Approximately 108,000 Americans died of overdoses in 2021. This number has doubled in the past 5 years. Greater than 70% of these were the result of opioids; 75% of the opioid overdoses are from the lethal synthetic Fentanyl.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the risks of musculoskeletal injuries and surgical procedures from work, home and/or athletic injuries.
- Assess the human and financial consequences of opioids in Work Compensation and Employee Medical Health Benefit claims.
- Learn how to counter three leading gateways for new persistent opioid use leading to addiction
