Title:
Preventing Falls in Construction: What Is Being Done and What More Can We Do?
Description:
Session Code: SH13
Falls continue to be the leading cause of death in the construction industry despite being preventable. During this presentation, we will provide updates on the National Campaign to Prevent Falls in Construction, which was launched in 2012 through the NORA Construction Sector Council Falls Workgroup with leadership from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and CPWR, The Center for Construction Research and Training. We will also share plans for the 2023 Stand-Down set for May 1-5, discuss recent trends in fatal and nonfatal fall injuries, and share free fall prevention resources, including toolbox talks, infographics, videos and much more in English, Spanish, and other languages. In addition, we will share findings from a fall experience survey that was conducted by CPWR, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Z359 National Work at Heights Task Force, and other partners to better understand the underlying causes of falls from heights. Finally, we will share ways for all of you to join in this national initiative! We would also like to hear from you about how to shape our national plan for 2023.
