Daniel Horton

Founder at Asphalt Shingle Recycling (ASR)

From his Midwestern roots as a roofing distributor branch manager and after 19 years in the building materials business, Dan left his Director position at IKO Industries, based in Toronto, ON, to establish Asphalt Shingle Recycling (ASR) Systems in 2009. His vision was to create a roofing industry circular solution.
He developed a more efficient, mechanical recycling method, which separates asphalt roofing shingles, made of six raw materials, into two streams of re-usable materials, with zero waste. This novel process was recognized by the US Patent and Trade Office awarding Dan with three process patents, a fourth patent on equipment design and a fifth patent pending. The two raw materials, defined as less than 500-micron asphaltic limestone powder and roofing granules, have stimulated the shingle recycling industry to further innovation

He is a recognized leader and member of the Construction and Demolition Recycling Association, a speaker at recycling events and conferences, and a regular guest lecturer at Virginia Tech.
