Buzz Powell

Buzz earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at Auburn University with an emphasis in pavements and geomaterials.  He worked for 12 years with the Alabama DOT and 2 years in the private sector before becoming the first Test Track Manager at the National Center for Asphalt Technology (NCAT) in 1999.  Hundreds of test sections have been built at the NCAT Pavement Test Track in the practical study of mix/materials, structural pavement design, and pavement preservation.  He joined the Asphalt Pavement Alliance (APA) in November 2023 as their first ever Technical Director.  Buzz is passionate about supporting and promoting quality asphalt pavement!
